Mexico Bass Fishing

The bass is a very popular fish among sport fishers as it is large, feisty and always eager to bite. It is a member of the Micropterus genus, all of which popular fish among sport fishermen. As the bass actually is a group of fish you can try to catch both marine and freshwater bass, most of which native to North America. When bass fishing in Mexico you can count on beautiful examples of the bass that can be released without any problems due to the enormous hardiness of the bass mouth and gills.

Since the 1950s there has been an enormous upswing when it comes to recreational Mexico bass fishing. A once seldom practiced sport has now become a multi-billion dollar industry ranging from hats to boat fees to waders. There even is hundreds of bass fishing competitions conducted annually. Although there are especially designs of more or less everything used for bass fishing it is also possible to use older equipment. When bass fishing in Mexico the lure, or bait, should be adapted to the instructions of the guide. If you are bass fishing alone you more or less can use any lure able to take the weight of a fully grown bass. There has recently been an upswing in fly-fishing while bass fishing in Mexico, allowing the fisherman to come closer to nature that he would in a boat.

When bass fishing in Mexico you should know that there are a lot of different lakes more or less teeming with large healthy bass. The lake resorts can vary a lot in price and it is therefore recommended to check the prices before leaving on your fishing trip. Otherwise there should not be a problem since the lakes that claim to have bass usually have them in multitude. For example one might go to lake El Salto or lake Guerrero for Mexico bass fishing since they both are highly recommended among regular sport fishermen.

Although most sport fishermen release the bass after it has been caught while Mexico bass fishing it is eatable and a delicacy in some areas. Cooked like any other fish the bass meat brings a wonderful and exotic flavour to the dish. It is great to smoke or fry and a pure delight to put on the barbeque. Of course one can do a lot with the fish after you have been bass fishing in Mexico, but the best is to roast it over an open fire and just splash some lemon juice over it. A wonderful meal, simple and elegant.
